I tested remote build functionality with a separate system (Windows Vista + Netbeans 7.4 + Ubuntu 10.04), using the same settings. This worked fine.
So this morning, I installed Netbeans 7.4 on my development system and configured it for remote development with my BeagleBone Black in the same way as explained previously. When I then build/debug a simple HelloWorld application this works fine.
I reverted to Netbeans 8.x and the confirmed the settings were the same and re-tested to confirm that the build/debug issue is still present, which it is.
So, just to summarise, this is not an issue specific to the BeagleBone Black target, it appears to be a bug introduced in Netbeans 8.x.
